I was thrilled to have the chance to visit with Kate Walsh, actress, business woman and activist at the VIP evening party for the Celebrating Triumph Luncheon for the Center for Success and Independence that was being held the next day, May 8th. For those of us that are die-hard Grey’s Anatomy fans, she is Dr. Addison Montgomery of G.A./Private Practice fame and could have been such a bigger than life character, but was instead such a down-to-earth, fun, and genuinely cool lady and the crowd loved her!
About Kate Walsh: She could not have been a neater gal. So hip, and honest that she made you feel like you were chatting with a good friend. She was full of enthusiasm for all that we discussed…first, her reason for being here. She said she had been here last year, was familiar with other Texas cities and loved Houston, especially the Heights area where the party was held (she said that!). She said she wanted to support the center because she was impressed by their success rate. This was a casual, informal affair but we did talk a little fashion shop. She is thrilled with how well her fragrance, Boyfriend, is selling. It is now in all Sephora locations, and for those of us that know how that works, that is no small feat, plus she was heading on Wednesday to do her stint on the Home Shopping Network for her fragrance as well. I was crazy for her flat booties that she was wearing (look closely in my photo with her below as I ensured we got them in). They were Chloe studded leather. Her dress was Isabel Marant and when I said I was in love with that designer’s clothes, she quickly quipped, “OMG, I am OBSESSED with her,” and looked just great in it. Let me also say that the dress was navy and black, which as a color-combo is my current obsession. What a delight she was….the coolest!
Scores of fans squeezed into a small reception area at the Houston Country Club for a special Tuesday meet-and-great with Private Practice star Kate Walsh, who traveled from Los Angeles to Houston for a fundraising event on behalf of The Center for Success and Independence (TCSI).
In between posing for pictures and signing autographs, Walsh spoke with CultureMap about how she became involved with the Houston-based youth treatment facility as well as her new fragrance Billionaire Boyfriend.
“These days, I’ve been working on my fragrance company, which has turned out to be a wonderful creative endeavor,” Walsh told CultureMap.
“I came down and toured the center a year ago and was really blown away by what they’re doing there,” Walsh said about a 2011 trip to Houston to visit TCSI’s innovative rehabilitation program for adolecents suffering from psychological, emotional or substance abuse disorders. “It was such an amazing place that I said I’d do whatever I could to help. So, here we are today.”
Private Practice has now been officially been renewed too. I hear the order is for 13 episodes for what will likely be the medical drama’s final season.
We love Kate Walsh for her character Addison Montgomery on Private Practice (and Grey’s Anatomy before that). She’s the perfect dichotomy. Tough as nails doctor in her professional life—and a hopeless romantic who never gives up on her love life. And Kate is not that different from Addison.
She believes in romance and passion and just an old fashioned love story—so much so that she even created her own perfume line called “Billionaire Boyfriend” to celebrate that ‘weak in knees, can’t imagine my life without you’ feeling in relationships.
“We definitely had lots of stories about crazy relationships not working and the travails of men and women and romantic comedies celebrating the female neurotic,” Kate explains. “But, I felt like we didn’t have any stories that were saying, ‘Hey Guys! We really love you and when you’re not around we really smell the shirts that you wear. The real romance to a relationship is that memory of him.”
And so we couldn’t resist. We had to have Kate take us on a walk down memory lane and dish on the Hollywood romances—from the big to small screen, from old school to today—that inspired her and never stopped her from believing in true love!
